IPA (2022-2023) Match 5 Recap
Overview
The IPA 2022-2023 tournament resumes with Match 5 on March 18th and 19th.
Vanderbilt, Manchester, Pomona, Georgia Tech, Tufts, and Waterloo win their respective groups. Georgia Tech sweeps all tables in their match. Harvard makes a last minute recovery for a chance at the wildcard spot. Michigan, MIT, Indiana, Wesleyan, Brown, NYU, UPenn, Georgetown, and UNSW all receive penalties post Match 4 regarding their violation of the multi-tabling policy.
Group A finalizes with Vanderbilt on top and Harvey Mudd in second. The two teams both secure a seat in the IPA Playoffs. Vanderbilt wins four of the five tables in their group. Tulane is the wildcard contender. Boston University moves up two placements while Michigan and MIT both fall.
Average: 28.33 points, Standard deviation: 20.68 points, Penalties: 0 points.
Group B finalizes with Manchester on top and Indiana in second. Manchester wins four of the five tables in their group. Wesleyan moves on to the wildcard game. Defending IPA champions Brown trends downwards after receiving penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy. Both Wesleyan and Indiana will be handicapped going forwards in the tournament.

Group C finalizes with Pomona on top and USC in second. Cornell outperforms Oxford and both teams are tied for the wildcard seat. The two teams will play a tiebreaker to determine their lifeline in the tournament.
Average: 28 points, Standard deviation: 16.88 points, Penalties: 2 points.
Group D finalizes with Georgia Tech on top and Chicago Booth in second. Columbia Law moves on the wildcard game. Georgia Tech sweeps the match by winning all fives tables and is the only regular season team in IPA history to do so. UCSD falls short of the wildcard seat and falls two places. UPenn receives significant penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy.

Group E finalizes with Tufts on top and Carnegie Mellon in second. Yale moves on to the wildcard game. Tufts and Carnegie Mellon exchange placements. No movements otherwise.

Group F sees Waterloo on top and Emory in second. Strong performance by Harvard who moves up two places and ties with Occidental for the wildcard spot. The two teams will play a tiebreaker to determine their lifeline in the tournament. McGill falls one placement. UNSW receives significant penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy.
