IPA (2022 – 2023) Match 5 Recap
Overview
The IPA 2022–2023 tournament resumed with Match 5 on March 18 and 19.
Vanderbilt, Manchester, Pomona, Georgia Tech, Tufts and Waterloo win their respective groups, with Georgia Tech sweeping every table in the match. Harvard makes a late recovery to earn a chance at the wildcard spot. Michigan, MIT, Indiana, Wesleyan, Brown, NYU, UPenn, Georgetown and UNSW all received penalties after Match 4 for violating the multi-tabling policy.
Vanderbilt finishes on top of Group A with Harvey Mudd in second, and both teams secure a seat in the IPA Playoffs. Vanderbilt wins four of the five tables in its group, and Tulane advances as the wildcard contender. Boston University moves up two places, while Michigan and MIT both fall.

Manchester finishes on top of Group B with Indiana in second, winning four of the five tables in its group. Wesleyan moves on to the wildcard game. Defending IPA champion Brown slides down the standings after receiving penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy, and both Wesleyan and Indiana will carry handicaps for the rest of the tournament.

Pomona finishes on top of Group C with USC in second. Cornell outperforms Oxford, leaving the two teams tied for the wildcard seat, and they will play a tiebreaker to stay alive in the tournament.

Georgia Tech finishes on top of Group D with Chicago Booth in second, and Columbia Law moves on to the wildcard game. Georgia Tech sweeps the match by winning all five tables, becoming the only team in IPA history to do so in the regular season. UC San Diego falls two places and just misses the wildcard seat, and UPenn receives significant penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy.

Tufts finishes on top of Group E with Carnegie Mellon in second, as the two teams trade places. Yale moves on to the wildcard game, and there was no other movement.

A strong performance moves Harvard up two places into a tie with Occidental for the wildcard spot, and the two teams will play a tiebreaker to stay alive in the tournament. McGill falls one place, and UNSW receives significant penalties for violating the multi-tabling policy.
