IPA & IPL Terms and Conditions

Updated Terms and Conditions for the 2023-2024 IPA tournaments.


1 Definitions

1.1 Range of Validity

The Intercollegiate Poker Association 2023-2024 tournament (IPA) and the Intercollegiate Poker League 2023-2024 tournament (IPL) is operated as part of the Intercollegiate Poker Association®. This is the only Terms and Conditions which are valid for the IPA and IPL, its participants and all matches played within the scope of the IPA and IPL. With one’s participation, the participant states that they understand and accepts all terms and conditions and rules.

1.2 Participants

A “participant” is an individual competing in an IPA competition or an IPL competition. A participant may be competing in both the IPA and the IPL. No participant can assume the role of another participant.

1.3 Region

The IPA and the IPL competitions will be held in the regions of Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom.


2 General

2.1 Rule Changes

The Intercollegiate Poker Association® reserves the right to amend, remove, or otherwise change the rules and terms and conditions, without further notice. The Intercollegiate Poker Association® also reserves the rights to make judgement on cases not specifically covered in the ruling in order to preserve the spirit of fair competition and sportsmanship.

2.2 Code of Conduct

All IPA and IPL participants agree to behave in an appropriate and respectful manner towards other participants, spectators, sponsors, and university and Intercollegiate Poker Association® administration. Any form of harassment or bullying will not be allowed. This includes but is not limited to any offensive actions regarding gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, and religion. A penalty or disqualification will be imposed in such a case of harassment or bullying.

2.3 Prizes

Prizes will be distributed by the Intercollegiate Poker Association® to the participants. Prizes may take in the form of gift cards, cash, or merchandise, and will be decided by the Intercollegiate Poker Association® depending on the situation.

2.4 Acknowledgement

By participating in any of the Intercollegiate Poker Association®’s events, the participant acknowledges all rules and agreements.


3 Agreements

3.1 Age

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree they are at least 18 years of age and are a student at the school they identify with.

3.2 Consideration to Sponsors

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to maintain a level of respect to the sponsors of the IPA and IPL. Participants agree to not actively promote other organizations during IPA and IPL events.

Participants of the IPA agree to not participate in or promote any other university poker tournaments that is run outside of their respective school or club.

Failure to follow the above will result in a disqualification of the individual.

3.3 Prizes

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand prize(s) will be distributed no more than 180 days after the completion of the current IPA or IPL tournament. Participants must claim their prize(s) within 30 days of the prize(s) being offered. The prize will be forfeited otherwise.

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand they might not receive prizes or may experience a delay in receiving prizes if conflicts arise.

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand that if their respective event is cancelled, they may no longer receive prizes.

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand their prize(s) may be retracted in the case of a disqualification or serious offense which may occur after the conclusion of the current IPA or IPL tournament.

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand they are responsible to pay their fair share of taxes in amount to the prize(s) they receive. Participants also agree to provide the required tax documents (W9 and 1099) regardless of the amount of their prize. Failure to provide the required tax documents will result in a forfeiture of the prize.

3.4 Definition of Poker

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand that poker is a game of skill and not chance.

3.5 Involvement

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand that there are no buy-ins or wagers involved in any of the Intercollegiate Poker Association® events. Participants agree to not use the terms “gambling” in association with the IPA or the IPL.

3.6 External Activities

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to not use IPA and IPL events or platforms to communicate poker games with real money (“cash games”) or unlawful activities.

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to not poach or lead other participants into competing or unlawful organizations.

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to not participate in other intercollegiate poker organizations (external to one’s team or club) . This does not include their own club or team that a participant identifies with.

3.7 Laws

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to abide by university rules and laws in the jurisdiction that they are physically located in.

3.8 Requirements

Participants of the IPA agree to submit the following as a part of their registration to the IPA: Name, Email, Resume, University Name, Year, Major, Resume, Picture, Short Biography, Hometown. Participants agree to have all of the following except the resume displayed on the website (PokerIPA.com). Participants agree to share all of the following with the sponsors of the IPA and the IPL.

Participants of the IPL agree to submit the following as a part of their registration to the IPL: Name, Email, Resume, University Name, Year, Major, Resume. Participants agree to have all of the following except the resume displayed on the website (PokerIPA.com). Participants agree to share all of the following with the sponsors of the IPA and the IPL.

3.9 Streaming

Participants of the IPA and IPL agree to have their information, picture, poker table hands, audio feed, and video feed recorded under certain circumstances for the purpose of streaming. A select few matches will be streamed.

3.10 Data Collection

Participants of the IPA and IPL understand data from matches and any activity within the tournaments may be collected and shared with the sponsors of the organization.
