IPA (2022-2023) Multi-tabling Violations

Dear IPA Playerbase,

The IPA tournament values integrity and fair competition highly. We expect participants in any tournament organized by the IPA to play with honesty to the fullest extent. It has been brought to our attention that there have been players assuming the identity of other players during IPA matches through the action of multi-tabling. Multi-tabling is not allowed in this tournament. The literature regarding multi-tabling can be found under 3.16 here. Multi-tabling in nature is unfair to other teams. The IPA by design is organized to be a team sport. Teams field five players during a match day and each player contributes to the overall team’s success. Multi-tabling allows the more skilled players of a team to accumulate more success for their team in the tournament and unfairly shifts the felt to that team’s favor. The IPA tournament is not an individual competition, it is a team competition.

Given the online nature of the tournament, we cannot catch all instances of multi-tabling. Fortunately, we have kept logs of all matches this season. We were able to track across all logs a player’s unique in game ID that is unique to one’s browser. It is unfortunate that we found a handful of instances, most of them belonging to a few teams and individuals.

Please see below a list of all players who have violated the multi-tabling rule and players who have allowed their seats to be assumed by an individual other than themselves.

In consequence, the following will occur to those found in violation

  1. Players will be instantly suspended for the remaining of the tournament
  2. Players may be permanently banned from all IPA tournaments, with an option for an appeal
  3. All points from these players will be removed and will automatically place sixth in their tables with 0 points. Players in the same tables will automatically move up in positions with penalties kept.
  4. If a team can no longer provide enough players to compete in the remainder of the tournament, the team will be removed from play
  5. A red card(s) will be given to the team dependent on the number of offenses. 2 offenses: team may field only four players, 3-4 offenses: team may field only three players, 5+ offenses: team may field only two players going forwards.

Going forwards, we will begin randomly checking player’s identity early and mid-game through the platform’s video chat functionalities.
