Overview

The IPA 2022–2023 tournament resumed with Match 3 on February 4 and 5.

Vanderbilt, Wesleyan, Pomona, UPenn, Carnegie Mellon and Waterloo lead their respective groups, while Manchester, Oxford, UPenn, Carnegie Mellon, Yale and Emory show strong performances. Match 3 brought many placement shifts.

Vanderbilt continues to lead Group A despite a poor 16-point performance, roughly a 4th-place average. There were no changes in placement. Harvey Mudd, Michigan, MIT and Tulane are all in contention for the second playoff spot and the wildcard spot, with only three points separating second from fifth. Matches 4 and 5 will be decisive for these four teams.

Wesleyan continues to lead Group B. Manchester jumps from fifth to second with a strong performance, while Claremont McKenna drops four places from second to last. Defending IPA champion Brown slowly gains momentum with 36 points, roughly a 3rd-place average. If the regular season ended now, Northwestern, Indiana and Brown would be separated by only two points in the race for a wildcard spot.

Pomona continues to lead Group C, with Oxford and USC tied for second. Oxford moves up two places from fourth, while Cornell drops two spots to fourth but is not far behind either team. Washington University trails the group with a significant gap behind fifth place.

UPenn continues to lead Group D with another strong performance and sits comfortably at the top. Georgia Tech and Northeastern both move up, while UC San Diego and Chicago Booth both fall. The bottom four teams, Northeastern, UC San Diego, Chicago Booth and Columbia Law, are all within reach of a wildcard spot, with only five points separating third from sixth. Match 4 will be significant for these teams as the playoffs approach.

Group E again sees a large change in placements, with Carnegie Mellon now leading. Carnegie Mellon, Yale and Miami all move up, while Tufts and Georgetown fall. Carnegie Mellon and Yale put in strong performances, averaging second place across their tables. Results vary widely, and the wildcard spot currently favors Tufts.

Waterloo continues to lead Group F. Emory outperforms the group with 43 points, an average slightly better than second place across its tables, while Occidental falls two spots. New South Wales, Occidental and Harvard are fighting for the wildcard spot, with Harvard not far behind Occidental.
