Brown IPA Champions (2021-2022)

Overview

The IPA 2021-2022 tournament concluded with the IPA Finals on June 4th.

Nimish Garg, Benjamin Glanz, Ian Gurland, Zachary Huang, Camran Lateef, Leo McMahon, Eli Shea, Ronnie Strode, Aaron Wang, John Wilkinson, Cottrell van Wingerden, and Suzie Zhang won Brown’s second IPA title.

Brown competed in Group F alongside British Columbia, Cornell, Harvey Mudd, Imperial, UMass, and Miami. The team made a surprising comeback during the final week of the regular season. They entered the match in fifth place, but were able to secure a playoff spot at conclusion. With first place finishes from Camran Lateef, Leo McMahon, Eli Shea, and Cottrell van Wingerden, Brown managed to secure second place overall with 32 out of 35 possible points and edged out Imperial from the playoffs with a 3 point margin. 

Brown would then go on to compete against Georgia Tech, Manchester, and McGill in the playoffs. Brown once again secured a final match victory to win their playoff group. The team scored 15 out of 20 possible points and pushed Georgia Tech out of contention with a 4 point margin.

Brown played Auckland, Columbia Law, and Vanderbilt in the IPA Finals. Brown scored 16 out 20 possible points to secure a victory. Auckland followed with 13, Vanderbilt 6, and Columbia Law 9. Nimish Garg, Ian Gurland, and Camran Lateef all won their tables while Leo McMahon and Cottrell van Wingerden placed third. 

Brown now holds two consecutive IPA titles and three consecutive IPA Finals appearances. They are the only team to secure multiple titles and lead the IPA in IPA Finals appearances. Special recognition to Eli Shea and Ronnie Strode for representing the team for all three years.
