IPA Playoffs (2021-2022) Match 2 Recap


Overview

The IPA 2021-2022 tournament resumed with the IPA Playoffs on April 9th and 10th.


The IPA Playoffs resumes with Columbia Law, Auckland, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt leading their playoff groups. The playoff teams consist of the top teams from the regular season. The leading team from each group will secure a seat in the IPA Finals.


Group A leads with 5 seed Columbia Law overtaking 12 seed UNSW. 1 seed Cornell picks up significant lost ground from the previous match. UNSW and Cornell both trail closely behind Columbia Law. Reno Varghese (Columbia Law) and Andy Tan (Cornell) went head-to-head for 131 hands, setting a new IPA record. 131 of the 204 hands were played heads up. The previous record was set by Josh Shi (Auckland) and Niles Lo (Tufts) with 88 hands.


Group B continues to lead with 11 seed Auckland. The team extends their lead with a healthy margin over 6 seed Tufts who sits in second. 2 seed Oxford and 15 seed Pomona both trail.


Group C continues to lead with 3 seed Georgia Tech. The team extends their lead by a single point from the previous match. Defending IPA champions Brown maintain second place. Brown looks for their third consecutive IPA Finals. 7 seed Manchester overtakes 14 seed McGill.


Group D continues to lead with 4 seed Vanderbilt. 13 seed Michigan again follows closely. Michigan comes into the IPA Playoffs as one of the underdogs from the wildcard game. 9 seed Yale and 8 seed Claremont McKenna follow.
